Hello!

My name is Brooke Dolega. I'm trying to start a Conservation Club at my Highschool to get more people educated, interested, and involved with conservation and the world around us.

But I don't know how. I went to my principals, and for a while it looked like it was going to go. But apparently we don't have the money. We just got a huge grant, and "we don't have the money". But I REALLY want this to happen. I'm super passionate and willing to do anything.

Does anyone have any ideas?

-Brooke

Check out Claudia's blog and Ta'Lisa's blog about this... maybe you could all help each other out by sharing ideas?

HI Brooke,

When you get an idea.. apply for a start up grant. T4PE has grants that can help get your club off the ground. A good mentor can also be a valuable resource. Your mentor can join here to get tips. You might want to choose a project: Energy audit of your school to help save money and reduce carbon emissions, recycling program, organize a clean the beach, or river, or park day. Good luck and keep in touch.

The epa has a site to help you get started

You might also want to connect with Claudia, a fellow T4PE member, b/c she's running into a similar problem:

Hi Brooke. Welcome to T4PE! You have a great question here - one that many T4PE members have to answer.

First, why not get permission to start the group by enslisting the help of a teacher? Is there an environmental science or biology teacher that can help you out? Ask around.

Secondly, can you use this site to get people excited about a project? Invite friends and people at your school to check it out. Then you can form a Group for you team. You also have until May 15 to apply for one of our Grants and get some money to get a project started.

Third, if you keep coming up against roadblocks at your highschool, then maybe you can work with a local organization on some type of project. This might help you school see how interested you are and what you can accomplish.

Don't give up! The beginning is always the hardest part.
